contract signing for funds to
support the REGGAE ACADEMY.
The first staging of the REGGAE ACADEMY
AWARDS is
slated for early 2008 in Jamaica and will be
presented as a three-day period of events.
The REGGAE ACADEMY AWARDS, is an annual music
industry awards project that seeks to
recognize and celebrate the artistic
achievements of not only talented musicians
and singers from the local and international
Reggae music communities, but also important
behind-the-scenes contributors such as
producers, songwriters, engineers and music
video directors.
The REGGAE ACADEMY AWARDS is a peer-presented
award to honor artistic achievement,
technical proficiency and overall excellence
in the Reggae recording industry, without
regard to popularity, music sales or chart
position. In each year there will however be
two “People’s Choice” categories for Best
Artist and Best Song that will allow for
public voting participation. The categories
for the awards will fall into two segments;
the Local Segment for awardees of Jamaican
nationality, and the International Segment
for foreign/non-Jamaican nationals.
With the exception of the special public
voting categories, entries shall be
submitted by paid up members, and
nominations and winners decided by Voting
Members only. To qualify for entry a record
or music video must be first released
anywhere in the world in the twelve month
period ending November 30 of the year under
consideration.
