At a meeting held in Kingston, Jamaica on
April 9th 2006 the first Steering
Committee of the REGGAE ACADEMY was established. The initial
membership of the steering committee
includes several prominent members of the
Reggae music, fraternity including Jeremy
Harding, Cleveland “Clevie” Browne, Donovan
Germaine, Dean Fraser, Clyde McKenzie, Ibo
Cooper, Lloyd Stanbury, Frankie Campbell,
Desmond Young, Steve Golding, Paul Barclay,
Rose Linton, Tony Rebel, Lydia Rose, Phanso
Wilson, Gerald Belnavis, Syl Gordon, Sly
Dunbar, Glen Browne, Clifton “Specialist”
Dillon, Robert Livingston, Delroy Thompson
and Freddie McGregor.
Lloyd Stanbury will serve as the interim
chairman of the steering committee.
Additional members, including persons from
the international community will be invited
to join the steering committee in time for
its next meeting and working session
scheduled for July/August 2006.
The primary role of the committee is to
act an advisory and policy making body for
the Academy, and to represent the Academy in
its relationship with the Recording Industry
Association of Jamaica (RIAJam) and the
promoter/producer of the REGGAE ACADEMY
AWARDS
event. The REGGAE ACADEMY Steering Committee will
carry out its functions through five
sub-committees as follows:

Finance and Administration – lead by
Lydia Rose
Categories, Nominations and voting –
lead by Jeremy Harding
Publicity – lead by Lloyd Stanbury
International – lead by Donovan
Germaine
The committee has set itself a target of
a minimum of 200 Academy members by August
2006, with projections to increase its
membership to several hundred in the long
term.
